Also, the sand cannot be placed inside when the grass is very dense. However, in the case of lower density ( soccer – around 10 000 stitches), you can easily install the bigger granulation, but never higher than 1,5 mm (although some companies install even more prominent – but it is not according to any standards or international requests).

We consider the silica sand as a stabilizing infill. Thus, it’s permanently installed on the bottom of the grass for soccer, and we install SBR rubber on the top. In that case, removing or reinstalling the silica sand is challenging as we first have to remove the SBR granules…and that is quite expensive.
It is easier for tennis, as there is no SBR on the top. So, we can remove some quantity of the silica sand (mainly on the baseline – as it gets more complicated due to the high traffic use). We draw the amount of silica sand with special brushes and then install the new quantity of silica sand. Typically, we can make this for tennis courts once per year, mainly end of the summer, before autumn comes and rain starts. In this procedure, we must be careful with the grass pile as too much brushing can damage it.
• Does silica sand’s high-quality support the Turf’s long life?
Of course, when the grass of silica sand is completely and correctly filled with good quality, washed, dried, and rounded pure silica sand, it keeps the pile-up. Therefore, only the top of the grass is damaged due to hard use. The grass filled with silica sand is protected, and the excellent quality/quantity of the sand also improves water permeability.
